Cameron Centre Workshop #3

When did it happen? March 12th 2020

Where was it? The Cameron Centre during Our Lockleaze Forum.

What was discussed? The bi-annual community forum, Our Lockleaze is a great great way for residents of Lockleaze to get together and learn about new and existing projects, discuss local issues and speak with local Councillors and Police Officers.

We took this opportunity to ask the wider community about the latest design proposals. Barefoot prepared presentation boards to discuss with members of the community what approach to materials people would consider appropriate for the new development.

We also presented three options for the existing green of Turner Gardens, to explore how the existing residents of Turner Gardens would feel about alteration to this green space. The intention is to continue work with the community to enhance the space for their enjoyment and biodiversity following comments from previous Co-Design workshops. It was decided that a separate, focused workshop with residents of Turner Gardens and Constable Road should take place before advancing these proposals.

In addition to this specific project, it was a fantastic chance to start the discussion about a Lockleaze Local Lettings Policy (LLP). The conversations were encapsulated by an initial LLP questionnaire which you can fill in here . The survey should be read alongside the Council's band definitions for the housing register which can be seen here. This would mean that a portion of new homes built in the neighbourhood are prioritised and allocated to local residents. For many this would make a huge impact in meeting local housing needs and allowing people to stay in the area they call home.

Please show your support and help the community to shape a LLP by completing the attached survey.

How did it go?

It was great to get feedback on the design direction for the Turner Gardens  Gateway project and we had some really in-depth conversations. For a full write-up of comments please click here.

Initial suggestions and answers in relation to a Lockleaze LLP have also been collected and will be used to inform the initial proposal to be discussed with Bristol City Council's Housing Delivery Team.
