Transport

Transport makes up 18% of Lockleaze carbon footprint - mostly from car use. Although Lockleaze car use is lower than the Bristol average it has been increasing.

Transport actions

1. Support residents with the kit, confidence and ability to cycle safely

2. Support cycling and walking routes to increase residents' confidence and safety in their sustainable travel choice

3. All residents have access to affordable, convenient public transport

Lockleaze Residents Planning Group is often discussing Transport related issues, join their monthly meeting to chat more.

Houses and buildings

21% of Lockleaze residents emissions come from housing. About 2/3rds of household energy use is from heating our homes, with the remainder on heating water, appliances, and cooking. Key actions we can take to reduce household emissions include actions to reduce heat loss, renewable energy sources and renewable energy suppliers.

1. Support residents to make homes energy efficient

2. Create opportunities for local residents to develop skills for green employment including retrofit, solar panels and heat pump options, eco-construction

3. Community ownership as part of development and regeneration of Lockleaze

4. All new housing developments to be energy efficient, affordable to maintain and include or contribute to public green spaces and sufficient services and amenities (such as community space)

Energy

Much of our energy use is powered by fossil fuels, such as oil and gas. There is enough solar energy every hour to power the whole world for an entire year - we just need to harness it. Other renewable energy sources include wind, wave and air & ground heat pumps. Some campaigners focus on reducing our energy use, and others on getting a renewable supply. Both are valid goals to limit carbon emissions. Low energy lightbulbs are one of cheapest ways we can reduce our energy use, turning the heating down a degree, making sure doors and windows are shut when heating is on will also reduce energy use. You can also explore renewable suppliers, and have your own renewable source added to your house e.g. solar panels.
