Great news and a very BIG THANK-YOU!

Great news and a very BIG THANK-YOU!

Lockleaze Neighbourhood Trust (LNT) has been working with residents on community-led housing, to see if together, we can build homes in Lockleaze that:

  • meet community need;

  • are affordable;

  • benefit local people;

  • happen this century!

Through 2019 and 2020 we held 10 events including 4 co-design workshops to get us to the point where we will submit a planning application next month. This has been a massive community effort, we are super grateful we literally couldn’t have got this far without residents’  support and input.

A major hurdle to building community-led homes is getting hold of the land at an affordable price. Bristol City Council identified a number of sites to be released to community organisations (like ours) that will provide genuinely affordable housing that is owned and run by members of the community. We are really excited to announce that our bids were successful. This is fantastic news as it means that land is transferred over to the community so that houses can remain affordable forever. Any profits from the scheme are also reinvested into the community.

Here are the two sites we are involved in, summarised below:

Site 1: Constable Road / Turner Gardens Gateway

Through a series of co-design workshops, Lockleaze residents have been instrumental in this scheme for 19 homes. We aim to submit our planning application in February 2021.

The scheme will be 100% affordable and our local lettings policy (subject to BCC approval) will make sure local residents will be able to access at least half of the new homes.

Every comment and opinion has been vital to the design of this scheme -  thank you to all that gave input. You can read more about the project here: https://www.lockleazehub.org.uk/community-led-housing

Site 2: Turner Gardens Garages Site

This project is in the very early stages of the pre-planning process. However, our bid for the site proposes to work with Ecomotive and SNUG homes who have been developing their first SNUG home down the road at The Wordsworth Centre, Lockleaze. The SNUG is a low cost timber frame home constructed off-site with high energy performance. This offers the opportunity to upskill residents as future occupants in the construction and finish of the homes.

We will be talking with Lockleaze residents in more detail about this in the coming months. Our current timetable intends to submit a planning application by the end of 2021.

We are so excited to have the opportunity to work with you to bring homes to Lockleaze that are shaped by the community and meet the community’s needs and aspirations. Both sites will go through planning applications so there will be the opportunity to comment formally but if you have any questions or concerns, please contact Alex Bugden on the details below.
