Lockleaze Climate & Nature Festival a Great Success
We hope you’ll agree, Lockleaze Climate & Nature festival was a great success. We really built on the first festival last year, with 19 stalls and activities, and an amazing 250+ of you attending! It was a lovely community atmosphere- loads of great conversations and fun in the sun.

A huge thanks to all the stall-holders and activity providers for coming down. We made bug hotels with We the Curious, tried soft archery with 1st Bristol Muslim Scouts and even had a go at milking the wooden Street Goat! It was also great to meet local climate and nature projects like Lockleaze Community Orchard, Really Wild Lockleaze, and the new group working for a healthy Horfield Brook.

Over 70 people were enthralled and moved by the young people’s audio play ‘Is this our Future?’, with writer and director Jody Cook from Unfold Community Arts. We laughed and even cried as we thought about what the future might hold, and what we can do now for future generations.
Lots of you also popped into the Hub to see the new exhibition of photos from Really Wild Lockleaze, and we also heard from some residents on the main stage. We had some great feedback- “So many wonderful and talented residents coming together to care for our neighbourhood climate + nature. Well done all!”
There was amazing creativity on show in the Insect Parade, which turned into an impromptu climate protest by the children. We were enjoying it so much we forgot to do the costume prizes! If you’d like to be considered for a prize, get in touch and let us know how to identify your costume, and we’ll share the winners.
The festival was the fourth in Lockleaze Neighbourhood Trust’s series of community feasts, and so featured a bumper picnic. Thanks to Jeevan Sweets for the tasty samosas and pakoras and Fruit and Veg land for the speedy delivery and fresh fruit. We also worked together to create Lockleaze’s longest ever caterpillar cake- it was a bit melty but still delicious.
We finished off the day with a ceilidh from local group Slug Band and caller Max Moorcroft- an energetic end to a brilliant afternoon. Extra big thanks to DJ Chan, who kept a great vibe all day playing reggae tracks- and his rig is even solar powered.
A massive thank you to all the volunteers- without you manning the parade, litterpicking, setting up tables and running tea and coffee at St Mary’s and St James, the festival couldn’t have happened.
